Facing Capitale-Nationale region on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, Chaudière-Appalaches takes its name, unsurprisingly, from the Chaudière River that runs through it from north to south, and from the Appalachian mountain range that forms its relief. This contrasted territory offers both productive agricultural zones and large forested areas. The region’s economy is as diverse as its landscapes, combining a strong agricultural and food-processing tradition, particularly in Beauce and Bellechasse, a vigorous manufacturing sector with many innovative SMEs, and a booming tourism industry. The region’s main cities are Lévis, a major urban and economic center, Saint-Georges, the Beauce capital renowned for its entrepreneurship, Montmagny and Thetford Mines, whose economy is diversifying after the asbestos era.
The Chaudière-Appalaches real estate market also presents very contrasting realities. The high-demand Lévis area, for example, is experiencing steadily rising prices that compare with those of Quebec City. As you move away towards the Beauce and Appalachian regions, prices are a little more affordable and investment opportunities are excellent. This part of the region is particularly attractive to families and workers from nearby urban centers, who are attracted by the available space, natural surroundings and competitively priced properties. In the more rural areas, the real estate market combines main residences and cottages, with a growing interest in country houses and farmland. With the improvement of road infrastructures, the dynamism of small towns throughout the region and the rise of telecommuting, the region’s attractiveness to buyers looking for a balance between accessibility to urban services and quality of life has risen considerably.
