Bois-des-Filion is a town in the Lower Laurentides with a population of approximately 10,500. It is located just 12 miles north of Montreal, halfway between Sainte-Thérèse and Terrebonne. Officially founded in 1949 under the name Saint-Maurice-de-Bois-des-Filion, it became a town in 1980. Once a popular vacation spot for Montrealers attracted by its magnificent maple groves, Bois-des-Filion has undergone a remarkable transformation to become a modern residential community while preserving its rural character. The town is home to an illuminated cross installed in 1955, the second tallest in the province after the one on Mount Royal, dedicated to Notre-Dame de Bois-des-Filion.
Bois-des-Filion offers a recognized quality of life that focuses on a family-friendly environment with elementary and secondary schools, a well-stocked library, an active community center, and numerous parks throughout the area. Residents enjoy a bike path integrated into the Route Verte network and direct access to Le P’tit Train du Nord linear park, which extends to Mont-Laurier, offering endless opportunities for biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The industrial park, developed in the 1990s, attracts a diverse range of businesses, creating a variety of employment opportunities. The proximity of highways 640 and 19 makes it easy to travel to Montreal, while public transportation completes the mobility options available to residents.
The Bois-des-Filion real estate market is distinguished by its affordability and diversity. Single-family homes dominate the residential landscape, and the waterfront area along the Mille Îles River is particularly prized for its enchanting setting and access to the water. Condominiums also offer attractive options for first-time buyers. This combination of affordability, proximity to Montreal, and preserved rural character makes Bois-des-Filion a wise choice for buyers looking to settle in a welcoming, human-scale community.
